Choosing the Right Heat Pump for Your Spring Hill, FL Home

May 20, 2020

When you need a brand new heating and cooling system for your home in Spring Hill, Florida, a heat pump is a wise choice. With a new heat pump installation, you can enjoy year-round comfort. Here are a few things you should know about choosing the right heat pump for your home.

With or Without Ducts

Heat pumps work with or without ducts. If you’re building a new home, you can choose whether or not to include HVAC ducts. If you choose a ducted heat pump, you can select short-run or standard, explains the Department of Energy. A short-run duct heat pump uses a single, short length of air duct. The heated or cooled air to the rest of the house is delivered through a ductless system. A ductless heat pump setup uses multiple indoor condenser units mounted on the ceiling or wall.

Split Versus Packaged

Most heat pumps are split systems. This means that there’s a compressor outside and a condenser inside. The compressor and condenser each have a coil. A packaged heat pump has both of the coils outdoors. With a packaged system, the heated or cooled air passes through a large duct mounted to your home’s roof or an exterior wall.

Single- or Multi-zoned

A single-zone is for cooling one room or an addition with a single condenser and indoor head. It is ideal for remodeling or home additions when no ducts are included in the design. A multi-zone heat pump allows you to set up four to six comfort zones within your home. Each zone has an indoor head. Outside, there is one outdoor condenser. These systems allow you to set different temperatures in different parts of your home for customized comfort.
